October 2005

By rescuing the small Sato dogs from Puerto Rico, we are helping to find a home for these wonderful dogs.

We are also  helping to keep customers out of the pet stores— that is one less poor puppy or dog from being PURCHASED from a puppy mill or backyard breeder.

Sato 5th Annual Reunion

You’re invited! Join other Sato families to welcome the rescuers from San Juan! The folks from Puerto Rico are traveling north to see old friends (your Satos) and make new friends (you and your family). It is a great opportunity to find out more about your Sato’s background, and maybe meet some siblings!! You can also meet other Sato families, as well as meeting your “old” friends from the Sato forum in person. We’ll have some drinks and snacks for you and your pet, a free toy for every Sato in attendance, and a chance to win cool prizes in the Reunion Raffle!

When: Sunday, October 16, 2005  ~  11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Where: Stage Fort Park off of Stacey Boulevard
Gloucester, MA (downtown)
Who: Sato adopters from the organizations listed below are invited to attend the reunion:
  • Buddy Dog Humane Society, Sudbury, MA
  • Cape Ann Animal Aid, Gloucester, MA
  • Northeast Animal Shelter, Salem, MA
  • The Sterling Animal Shelter, Sterling, MA

Please note that the "CAAA Dog Day" event will be occurring at the same time in another section of the park.

Meet the members of the Save A Sato Foundation who help rescue so many animals from lives of uncertainty. Maybe they actually rescued your dog from the streets or became your pooches foster mom or dad while they awaited their turn to journey to the United States to find themselves a loving new home. Reunite with shelter personnel who helped you make the perfect match.

When you arrive, check in your Sato with the shelter you adopted your canine friend from. Enjoy the meet and greet with a bite to eat, a free toy, and enter to win some fabulous prizes in a raffle to benefit the Save A Sato Foundation. This raffle will help support the wonderful work they do.

There will be a variety of activities for dogs and people, such as nail trimming and painting, doggy psychologist, canine agility, grooming, food and drink, children’s activities, and more!

What to Bring

  • You and your Sato, and other family members.
  • All dogs must be on-leash at ALL TIMES.
  • Please plan to pick up after your pooch—Stage Fort Park is a beautiful spot, and we’d like to leave it as spotless as we find it!
  • No aggressive dogs, please!
  • Due to the number of invitees, multi-dog households please bring Satos only. Thanks!
  • Bring a camera, and take lots of pictures we can all share!
  • Cape Ann Animal Aid, Northeast Animal Shelter, Buddy Dog Humane Society, and Sterling Animal Shelter are the “official” hosts, but all Satos and Sato families are welcome.

Weather

We’re planning on the best crisp fall weather October can deliver, but this is New England. The rescuers from Save-A-Sato will only be in Gloucester on Sunday, so there is no rain date. We will do our best to go forward, rain or shine. If the weather looks questionable, please call the shelter at 978-283-6055 for the latest information.

Directions to Stage Fort Park

  • From Rt 128 North, take EXIT 14 (Rt 133 East).
  • Follow Rt 133 to the end, Gloucester Harbor.
  • Take a RIGHT onto Western Ave (Rt 127).
  • Take the FIRST LEFT into Stage Fort Park.
  • Parking is available on Western Ave or in Stage Fort Park (the upper lot on the right).

Donate a Kuranda bed
- a new breed of bed for every dog!

This is a healthy, support dog bed for home or kennel use.

Help Our Puppies and Dogs Stay Comfy While Visiting Our Shelter

DONATE a Kuranda, chew proof bed to the shelter! The shelter is hoping to receive 20 beds of assorted medium to large sizes to accommodate large dogs and litters of puppies! Check out the variety of beds, sizes, and colors at Kuranda Dog Beds.

What makes Kuranda dog beds so special? It is like no other bed. The poly-resin bed is lightweight, non-corrosive, and ideal for outdoor or indoor use. The patented design provides firm, even support that no pillow or cushion can match AND they are:

comfortable
chew proof
easy to clean
used indoors or outside - WHEREVER your friend needs a comfortable place to rest

The ideal bed for Shelter would be the Commercial Grade. We are hoping for mostly medium and large beds to accommodate large dogs and entire litters of puppies.

Poly Resin Bed with Commercial Duty 40 oz Fabric
This bed utilizes the "chew proof" frame design of the poly resin beds with 40 oz. solid vinyl fabric to make the most durable bed that Kuranda manufactures.

The heavy duty vinyl has shown to hold up better than any fabric tested in animal shelters, boarding kennels, and in training facilities.

The 40 oz. vinyl is a smooth, non-porous, easy-to-clean material similar to what is used on truck tarps and gym mats.

Tell President Bush and Governor Blanco that Animals Need Their Help Now!

Time is running out for Katrina's animal victims. Please contact federal and state government officials today and ask them to help rescue animals before it is too late. Phone calls are the most effective way to bring attention to this desperate situation. Please note that phone lines may be busy and voicemail boxes may be full, so please keep trying. Some of these lines may have recorded messages.
