the more than
30 animal
rescue staff and volunteers from 12 states to assist in the care and treatment of the animals affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Katrina Relief

On September 14th, the Sterling Shelter will be sending a much needed team of veterinarians to New Orleans to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

We are not just sending aid—we are sending animal experts! Your donation will go even further when it helps us get our team of expert rescue workers to these victims without voices! We would appreciate your donations to help us raise the funds for supplies and travel expenses—100% of the funds will go towards animals affected by the storm!

Donations can also be dropped off at or sent to:

Donations for Otis Air Force Base Refugees. The state has accepted 2,500 people and their pets are being re-homed at Otis Air Force Base on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. Our Shelter needs to help these pets, and families, with much needed pet supplies. We are collecting the following items at either Pet Rock or our Shelter:

  • Dog and/or cat food
  • Pet bowls
  • Leashes and/or collars
  • Bedding
  • Crates
  • Toys and treats for dogs/cats

Other Katrina Rescue Efforts. Our hearts go out to the animals and people who have become victims of Hurricane Katrina. Most specifically, our Shelter works closely with a few shelters based in Mississippi and Louisiana. Should you want to help, the following organizations are legitimate, hardworking, dedicated animal lovers.

    Humane Society of South Mississippi
    13576 Washington Ave

On behalf of all of us at the Sterling Shelter, we thank you for your support!
