The Pet Rock Festival is an annual event held within the first two weeks of September each year. It is an afternoon expo/festival that includes live music, vendors, food, contests, and most importantly, more than 200 animal organizations broadcasting their causes.

Proceeds from the festival are distributed to Massachusetts-based animal welfare organizations, including shelters, cruelty watchdogs and rescue leagues. Regular recipients of our festival include the Sterling Animal Shelter, National Association for Humane and Environmental Education (NAHEE) and the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA). Awards of $1,000, $500 and $250 are also handed to rescue groups and shelters that win our coveted “lottery” and “adoptable dog parade” during the festival.

So far, Pet Rock Fest has distributed well over $35,000 to worthy animal causes in New England. We’ve also given to groups such as Mass. Vest-A Dog, the Animal Legal Defense Fund, the Worcester Animal Rescue League and the Second Chance Animal Shelter.

HEADLINERS

Headliners this year are American Idol finalists Kevin Covais and Melissa McGhee. They each perform a set and will be available for a meet and greet session as well as photos. In addition to our American Idol performers, locals Collapsible Three, Pet Rock (the band) and Craig are on the musical bill.

PET ROCK FESTIVAL PHOTO CONTEST!

Please paws for a moment …your cat could be famous! Well, sort of. Enter your cat in the prestigious Pet Rock photo contest.

Gift baskets, certificates and ribbons awarded to first, second and third place winners in each category. Contest is judged by local celebrities. Proceeds benefit Pet Rock Fest. You can enter your cat photos in the following categories:

  • Best Friends
  • Funniest picture
  • Best Eyes
  • Best Stretch
  • Sweet Baby of the Year

How can you enter your fuzzy friend?

  1. Complete the entry form.
  2. Write your name and address on the back of each photo.
  3. Write out a check or money order for the $5 entry fee for each photo, made payable to Pet Rock Fest.
  4. Mail your entry form, photo(s), and entry fee(s) to:

Include your address on the back of the photo, and it will be returned. Winners will receive prizes, and unlimited notoriety—including being posted on the www.petrockfest.com site.

 The Animal Shelter Inc. is still in desperate need of the many items to keep our lovable furry companions happy and comfortable.

 For our puppies, dogs, kittens, and cats:
   
 
  • Canned food
  • Rawhide chews for the dogs and puppies...it keeps them quiet
    and happy by giving them something to do with their mouth
    other than bark
  • Fun toys to play with - mice catnip, balls, squeaky, plush,
    nylabones, Kongs (vinyl toys) are always great!
  • Cat litter - CLAY unscented (Wal-Mart® sells a 40 pound bag for next to nothing)
  • Warm blankets for our lovable babies (we would greatly appreciate it if you would cut down large comforters or blankets to four even quarters so that more pets can benefit from one blanket and they can be easily washed)

  • Liquid laundry detergent and liquid hand soap
  • Cleaning supplies such as extra large heavy duty trash bags, bleach, glass cleaner, etc.
