Hip dysplasia is a
condition in which abnormal formation of the hip joint results in
unstable hip joint. As the affected dog ages, the hips gradually become
arthritic and may degenerate to cause total crippling and painful of the
rear limbs.
Hip dislocation is
extremely painful. The dislocation occurs when the ball of the hip joint
comes out of its socket.

Mooch is Mooching for Chocolate...Can You
Help?
Several
weeks ago, Mooch arrived at our Shelter after being rescued
from a high kill shelter in Virginia and Chocolate from the
streets of Puerto Rico. Recently. we noticed that something was wrong
- they were a bit shaky and weak in the hind end. After taking them to
a local hospital for x-rays, we were sad to hear from our vets that
Mooch has severe hip dyplasia in both hips and Chocolate has a
dislocated hip.
Mooch needs a bi-lateral (both hips)
hip surgery to correct his painful condition and Chocolate needs an
"open reduction" hip surgery to put her hip back in the socket. We
have been able to maintain their pain through oral medications, but
they need to have surgery soon. Estimates for Mooch are over $3,000
and Chocolate is close to $2,000. Our Shelter is hoping desperately
that we can raise the funds to help these poor souls.
Please help Mooch and Chocolate by
making a donation in their honor!
In many parts of the United States there are many, many stray and
abandoned animals. Many of these animals live each day awaiting their
untimely
death whether it be from starvation, disease, injury, or abuse. There
are really no words that can describe what it is like to be one of
these animals trying to survive. For those of us who have seen it with
our own eyes, the horror is always in our minds. Is an inhumane death
the only choice for those who can’t help themselves? It shouldn’t be.
And we’re trying to change that. One pet at a time.
If you can help Mooch and/or his friend Chocolate, then please send
donations in their honor at the Shelter:
