Fake fur?
Think again.
Products are being made with fur from dogs and other species.
PLEASE TAKE ACTION to help close the loophole that allowed this deception!

The HSUS to Consumers: Beware of Dog
Recently, The HSUS escalated the campaign to protect animals and consumers from widespread abuses by the apparel industry. A legal petition was filed with the Federal Trade Commission seeking to enforce the Fur Products Labeling Act against 14 major retailers and designers concerning false advertising and false labeling of garments with fur trim.
And this morning, a day after the "Today" show aired a story, "Good Morning America" also reported on an investigation that turned up products made with fur from dogs and other species—products that were sold as either fake fur or other types of animal fur in violation of the Federal Fur Products Labeling Act. In response to the investigation, many retailers and designers acted to put customers and animals first—notably Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, which have both pledged to go fur free within a year. But a disappointing number of stores and designers did not take appropriate action and are listed in the petition.

Recall Affects SPCA Food Donations
The BC SPCA has removed all pet foods that are part of the Menu Foods pet food recall. "We immediately removed any of the affected foods," says Bob Busch, general manager of operations. "However, this means that we are also looking to the public to consider a food or cash donation to help us maintain food inventories."

Unhappy buyers target popular Oxford kennel
What started off as puppy love between Laughlin Kennel and prospective pet owners in Oxford
has turned into a no–love–lost fight between the seller and the buyers.
It has recently been brought to our attention (thanks to the watchful eye of one of shelter
supporters) that the puppy, Dallas, that was sick and featured in this story, came from
Kathy Bauck in Minnesota who was also served a cease–and–desist letter by the
Vet Board of Minnesota to STOP PERFORMING SURGERIES ON ANIMALS.

As part of CAPS campaign
against Shake A Paw, they investigated Pick of the Litter, a large–scale
brokerage facility in Minnesota in the fall of 1997. The owner, Kathy Bauck, told our
investigators that she had 573 dogs who all have names. The February 25, 1998 inspection
report listed 603 adult dogs and 309 puppies.

Online Puppy Sales is a Huge Problem!
An INSIDE EDITION Feature Story
Alert and Caution! INSIDE EDITION recently featured ONLINE puppy sales as
a HUGE problem facing pet owners. Please spread the word!
According to the Humane
Society, more than 400,000 people buy puppies online every year, most without ever
having actually seen the pet. But while the internet can be a convenient and economical
way to buy a puppy, as an INSIDE EDITION investigation found, it can also lead to
heartbreak.
Eleven-year-old Casey Poore learned the hard way how risky it can be to buy puppies over
the internet. Her parents ordered a King Charles Cavalier puppy from brushycreekkennel.com.
The dog cost $1000 dollars less than what local breeders were charging.
Casey’s dad, Dan Poore, told INSIDE EDITION that they worked out all the
arrangements, sent the company a check for the dog and went to pick him up at the
San Francisco airport.
"I just wanted to like hug him forever," Casey told INSIDE EDITION.
But within days the puppy started coughing. They say they took him to the vet and
found out that he had chronic lung disease, so they sent the puppy back.
It took nine months, but Brushy Creek finally sent a new puppy.
"When we first saw him, he was just shivering and cold, and he was just like
very sick," Casey said.
Dan said the dog looked comatose. "He couldn’t drink, couldn’t eat,
and woke up in a pool of his own vomit," he said.
The Poores, who live near San Francisco, say they spent close to $2000 trying to save
the puppy, but after two days, he had to be euthanized.
Brushy Creek, owned by David Moore, is actually operated out of a modest looking ranch
house in Hockley, Texas, about 40 miles outside of Houston.
Posing as a customer, INSIDE EDITION went to Brushy Creek with a hidden camera.

Casey Moore was heartbroken when the puppy her family bought online had to be put to sleep.
When INSIDE EDITION visited Brushy Creek, we found this filthy schnauzer used for breeding.
INSIDE EDITION ordered a Westie online, and he arrived in New York scared and shaking.
The Humane Society named the Westie "Baxter" and is placing him in a loving family.
