Whisker Walk

  May 2008

Did YOU adopt
YOUR dog or
puppy from:
Tennessee?
Puerto Rico?
Virginia?

Adopters from these groups will be given a color coded ID badge identifying the group YOU adopted your dog from. You fill in the month and year and wear it on your shirt. Have fun walking the event to see if you can find YOUR dog's siblings!

IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO PARTICIPATE at the
Exciting 2008 Whisker Walk AND REUNION!

We are so very EXCITED and PROUD to let our adopters know that YOUR PUPPY/DOGS foster families and Shelter staff from our partner shelters in Tennessee, Virginia, and Puerto Rico will be flying in TO MEET YOU and YOUR dog(s)! Join us for the 2008 Whisker Walk and reunion!

Over the past years, we have had reunions but this is SURE to be an emotional and worthy day spent for you, your family, and YOUR DOG(S)!

For over NINE long years we have worked with the foster families and volunteers in Puerto Rico and Virginia (and just over a year with the folks from Tennessee) to help THEM save THOUSANDS of dogs and puppies that would otherwise be living a terrible life or, worse, would have been euthanized.

Because of families like YOURS, we have saved well over 10,000 of these loving creatures! Innocent animals that would otherwise be faced with certain death but are now safe in your loving, happy homes!

Want to help, but you can't be there? You can make a donation to http://www.firstgiving.com/sterlingshelter in honor or memory of a loved one.

Volunteer opportunities are also available. If you are interested, please contact Melissa Snitzer at melissa@sterlingshelter.org or by calling 978-422-8585, extension 114.

We truly hope you will join us WITH your dog(s) to welcome our guests and to pose for a GROUP PHOTO around
3:15 p.m. Please come meet these hard working fosters and thank them for their hard work!

The Whisker Walk event is a fun day for families and their dogs PLUS a dog walk-a-thon fundraiser to benefit our Shelter pets and programs!

Dozens of animal rescue groups and pet related vendors, manufacturers, and sponsors come together for an “event not to be missed” for pet lovers.

Held at the Lancaster Fairground (Home of the Bolton Fair) there are 35 acres for pet owners and animal lovers to walk and lend a paw for the animal shelters and pet rescues they love and support!

Emergency response plans at the federal, state and local level are all required to have an ANIMAL COMPONENT, following the 2006 Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards Act of 2006.

The PETS Act was a response to the situation after Hurricane Katrina when many evacuees refused to leave or delayed their departure because of their pets.

“Sixty-three percent of American households have pets,” Mrs. Webber said. “But only 30 percent of American households have minor children.”
