It's not too late to send a Valentine!

Our Valentine's Day is our long-term fundraiser to raise money to purchase our full time stationary generator. All of the donations made throughout this campaign will be dedicated to purchasing a permanent full-time stationary generator to keep our pets safe and warm during emergencies and disasters.

Just like many of you, our Shelter was devastated by the December ice storm. We are attempting to raise the $35,000+ to purchase and install a commercial grade full-time mounted permanent generator that will power all of our buildings and keep our pets safe and warm.

Thanks to a generous $3,500 grant from Petfinder.com, we are starting off on a good note! Our Shelter is a state and regional disaster facility that accepts pets during disasters. We need to be better prepared to keep pets safe, warm and cared for, as well as available to assist our OWN community with their pets who are also affected by such natural or man made disasters.

Shaw’s Receipt Rewards Program

Thank you to all of our Shelter friends and supporters who have faithfully mailed or dropped off your Shaw’s grocery receipts as part of the Shaw’s Receipt Rewards Program. Our Shelter receives a percentage of the total grocery bill.


Going Green! The program is changing to become more eco-friendly and paperless. There is a PROGRAM UPDATE that is effective 28 February 2009.
 

Shaw’s is changing their program to go paperless and help us save time counting, calculating, and mailing hundreds of thousands of receipts each year. Sign up with your existing Shaw’s Rewards Card. It takes seconds and both YOU and our Shelter will save on postage, time, and it helps the environment!

 Mark your calendars! Please join us for the Rescuers' Reunion AT the 2009 Whisker Walk. View our video, on YouTube, to see just how much fun that you, your family, and your dog(s) will have!

Not only is the Whisker Walk an amazing event to experience with your family and dog(s), but you must also participate in the heartwarming and touching reunion.

The 2009 Rescuer’s Reunion Meet and Greet us an opportunity to meet YOUR dog(s) foster family from Virginia (VA), Tennessee (TN), and Puerto Rico. Our partner shelters and foster families will be traveling a very long way to attend to meet you and your dog(s)! Last year's reunion was an amazing part of the Whisker Walk event. Many of our pets reconnected with littermates and found each other! The foster families from VA, TN, and Puerto Rico will be at the event all day to reunite with you and your dog(s). You can’t miss it! In addition, our Shelter will provide adoptees with a sticker that corresponds with the group you adopted. You can write your pets adoption month and year on it and while walking around the event, you just might bump into a littermate to your dog(s)!!! It is a fun and exciting opportunity to reunite. Last year there were many reunions!

 How can you help our pets and programs? Create your very own custom webpage to fundraise and collect pledges for the Whisker Walk. Send emails to your friends, family, and business associates – 100% of the money raised will help our pets and programs. Ask your company if they will match donations and double your fundraising efforts! Prizes will be awarded to the top fundraiser/team.

Our Shelter sends a huge set of slurps and purrs to our friends at Brookfield Renewable Power for sponsoring $5,000 worth of free advertising for our Shelter pets and programs. You can learn more about Brookfield Renewable Power at www.brookfieldpower.com.

Brookfield Renewable Power, a company with more than 100 years of experience as an owner, operator and developer hydroelectric power facilities in North America and Brazil recently opened its U.S. Operations headquarters in Marlborough, Massachusetts.

As a company that focuses heavily on safety, environment and community, Brookfield Renewable Power chose to partner with WFNX to sponsor a radio program that would encompass all three initiatives. In December 2008, they began airing public safety announcements to make people aware that the churning waters above and below dams can be very dangerous. The message: “Please help us make certain that we all enjoy our rivers safely.” At the same time, they launched a program called BRP (Brookfield Renewable Power) Cares. This program, designed to help communities in which Brookfield operates, allows non-profit organizations to write to WFNX to explain why they would benefit from having a radio commercial. The winner works with WFNX to create a 60 second radio advertisement and receives advertising air time valued at $5,000.
