What's a Whisker Walk?
It is a lot of things, but mostly it is a FREE and fun event for families and their dogs. There is also a dog walk-a-thon fundraiser to benefit our Shelter, as well as other New England-based shelters and rescue groups that participate. Each shelter and rescue group is encouraged to get their adopters and supporters to participate in the event. It is a lot of fun and thousands of people and their dogs join in the fun each year.
The 2009 Whisker Walk brought in almost a 100 animal-related rescue groups, and pet-related vendors, manufacturers, and sponsors for a one of a kind event not to be missed for pet lovers. The 2010 Whisker Walk is sure to be bigger and better!
The event is held at the Lancaster Fairground in Lancaster, MA (Route 117) also known as the Home of the Bolton Fair. There are 50+ acres for pet owners and animal lovers to enjoy. The fairground is easily accessible from all over New England. Come see exhibits, demonstrations, educational programs, special attractions, product giveaways, entertainment, auctions and raffles, food, fun and things for adults and kids to see, do and buy—both human and pet related!

Whether you geocache with your dog or just like to explore new places with them this is the event for you! |
Have You Heard of Dog Geocaching?
This is an exciting new event for the 2010 Whisker Walk. If you are not familiar with this new sport, dog caching is a dog friendly "scavenger hunt" called geocaching that you play with your GPS and in this case, your dog.
The purpose of the game is to locate containers that are hidden in dog friendly locations and parks at the Whisker Walk Fairground. Your dog does not have to be specially trained to participate. Its a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices.
The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment.

Meet the siblings of your family dog or puppy! |
Rescuer Reunion 2010
Find your dog's siblings! Did YOUR family adopt YOUR dog or puppy from Tennessee, Puerto Rico, or Virginia? So many of you have contacted us wanting to meet YOUR DOG'S siblings. We have heard you. To fulfill these requests, we have created a fun way for you to meet them! Visit our Facebook website where many happy reunions have happened. Join us TODAY.
All of our wonderful adopting families that attend this unique event will be given a color coded ID tag identifying the group YOU adopted your dog from (Tennessee, Virginia, or Puerto Rico). Simply fill in the month and year of the adoption and wear it on your shirt! Have fun walking the event to see if you can find YOUR dog's siblings!
- Do they look alike?
- Do they have similar personalities?
- Do they have funny quirks or traits?
- You may be surprised! We had several littermates reunite at the 2009 Whisker Walk!
We are so very EXCITED and PROUD to let our adopters know that YOUR PUPPY and DOGS foster families and Shelter staff from our partner shelters in TN, VA and Puerto Rico will all be flying in JUST TO MEET YOU and YOUR dog!
Foster Families
For over 10 long years we have worked with the foster families and volunteers in Puerto Rico and Virginia (and now several years with the folks from Tennessee) to help them save thousands of dogs and puppies that would otherwise be living a terrible life or be euthanized.
Because of families like yours, we have saved well over 15,000 of these loving animals! Innocent animals that would otherwise be faced with certain death, but are now safe in your loving, happy homes!
Please come meet these hard working foster families and thank them.
