How YOU Can Help Our Furry Friends This Holiday Season…WE Need YOU!

By December 3, 2019 News No Comments

Not every pet is as fortunate as yours is – to be warm, safe, and fed this holiday season and year round. Our shelter is working to change this by acting nationally—and YOU can help by giving locally…. With the holiday’s right around the corner, we’ve got a lot to be grateful for. We get to help so many incredible organizations expand their impact and change the world for the animals—it’s a pretty exciting thing to be a part of!  Every day, thousands of unwanted dogs and cats across the U.S. are abandoned. Left on the streets or in overcrowded shelters, most face certain death. But with your help, OUR SHELTER can rescue as many of these innocent animals as possible, who have been neglected and left to die… and help each one find a loving forever family.

Our shelter’s rescue programs have saved TENS OF THOUSANDS of homeless dogs and cats from across the United States and Puerto Rico. Every animal in our no-kill shelter receives nutritious food, medical treatment, and loving attention in a safe and clean environment while waiting for their fur-ever home.

There are so many things we really DO want to do – again we need YOUR HELP and financial support. NOT just for the holidays, but year round.
With all of the amazing adopters and adoption stories we have, we are now asking YOUR family to consider a minimum donation of $10 a month to HELP more pets – just like the one you might have adopted and given a NEW LEASH ON LIFE. Your adoption was just ONE of THOUSANDS… we’ve done ALL of this only through adoption/surrender fees and donations. We simply can’t continue to run all these programs for people and pets, offering low cost spay/neuter to the community without HELP.

Your tax-deductible gift can save the lives of dogs and cats that were once abused, injured, or facing euthanasia… and help them find caring, adoptive families.  To show our appreciation, we’ve included our ultimate guide to annual giving. Check them out, and as always, keep making good happen. We need YOUR HELP…..Without your support and the support of our amazing adopters and supporters, sadly our shelter will start cutting back on transport programs and the ability to save MORE animals. Due to the enormous cost of transport fees and growing expenses of our OTHER day to day costs to maintain our shelter and low cost vet clinic, we could really help so many more animals that are faced certain death without our Transport programs.

Background Our shelter was the FIRST in New England to start doing high volume transport programs AND maintaining a 100% compliance rate on spaying and neutering these pets PRIOR to adoption. We have been rescuing and transporting pets from all over the South and Puerto Rico since February 1999. In 20+ years OUR shelter has saved tens of thousands of dogs and cats that were slated for euthanasia and something we just don’t see HERE in New England. It’s hard to imagine in almost year 2020 that animals are STILL sitting in a Southern shelter facing the gas chamber (or worse) because they are “out of time and have nowhere else to go”. It’s truly gut wrenching and heart breaking knowing these beautiful, loving, furry souls need US but having to say NO because we simply can’t afford to take more. We WANT to help but we can only save so many without the financial help of our shelter friends.

The immense costs of pre-transport medical care and a minimum of 6 weeks these pets have to wait while getting their necessary vet work prior to transport, add on the transport companies charge anywhere from $100-$200 PER CRATE or PER animal, then the cost of finalizing any vet care once they’ve arrived, getting these pets spayed or neutered, micro-chipped and providing any additional vet care for them prior to adoption is overwhelming financially. Yet the phone never stops ringing, and the emails never stop coming. Begging for our help from shelters/rescues in every state in the South is overwhelming mentally. The demand for our services continues to grow as do our expenses. Sadly, our fundraising to grow these programs (that helped us possibly bring your new furry family member to safety) has TRIPLED in cost in only the last couple years! These excessive transport fees have really hurt our ability to help more of these shelters that are so desperate to save the lives of these animals they are often crying when they call us and beg us to “even just take ONE”. These are rescues and shelters with good people fighting an uphill, frustrating battle in their area to get their pets OUT to safety and focus on spaying/neutering in their regions to curtail the never ending flow of pets being dumped in their shelters. IF not YOU – then WHO? If not now – WHEN?

Some of the OTHER Ways YOU Can Help Us Help MORE Pets Like Otto….
He “Otto” been treated better. Neglected after he was adopted as a puppy, he was surrendered to our shelter almost completely bald (yes that is his bare skin – his fur was missing over 90% of his body with a severe case of mange, his feet were so painful and swollen he could barely walk).

It’s hard to imagine in almost year 2020 that animals are STILL sitting in shelters facing the gas chamber (or worse) because they’re “out of time and have nowhere else to go”.

Weekly we get dozens of emails from shelters begging for us to help them and take animals from them, its gut wrenching and heartbreaking knowing these beautiful, loving, furry souls need US but we are having to say NO because we simply can’t afford to take more. We WANT to help – but we can only save so many without the financial help of our shelter friends.

Since our shelter is NOT funded by the city/state or government – we rely 100% on surrender/adoption fees and occasional grants and donations. Though we apply yearly for grants and funding from every possible foundation…sadly, there are over 10,000 shelters and rescues Nationally competing for these very same and  limited grants….it’s truly a dog eat dog world in the grant funding world for shelters!

With all of these new transport partners, we’ve fallen short of some seriously much needed renovations and improvements at the Shelter and clinic.  Our Shelter is old and sadly out of date; we have had plans for 5 years for a major clinic addition and kennel renovation, but have fallen short of the funds needed every year.
