Petco Foundation Holiday Wishes People’s Choice Award The staff and volunteers at the Sterling Shelter are completely beyond excited to announce that OUR shelter (listed as Sterling Animal Shelter) has been chosen as 1 of 52 stories submitted that won us a $5,000 grant! We won this from JESSICA AND TROT's story, which was one of hundreds of thousands stories, to participate in the Petco 2017 Holiday Wishes Contest – the story submitted by one of our adopters Jessica and her dog, Trot, to win 2 grants from the Petco Foundation Holiday Wishes Campaign! One of the grants was received on Monday, December 4th, as the Sterling Shelter’s Director, Leigh Grady, was presented with a check for $5,000 by our friends at Petco! In addition to the $5,000 grant, we also have the chance to win $25,000 for the PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD. THIS IS WHERE YOU CAN HELP! We are asking – well truly sitting, staying, rolling over, and begging – for your help to give their story the chance to save EVEN MORE LIVES. Voting is FREE. Please take a few minutes to read Jessica and Trot’s story. Their story is very special to our shelter family. Trot survived mandibular osteosarcoma (jawbone cancer)! Despite his prognosis of 18 months to live, Jessica and her family planned his treatment. They had the tumor removed, and Trot went for 20 consecutive radiation treatments and proceeded through five sessions of chemotherapy. Trot was a trooper, but it was a very difficult time for the whole fami Please share on your social media so others can vote as well. The winning story/shelter receives an additional $25,000. Trot's family are often asked why his tongue hangs out of his mouth. This charming feature allows Jessica to share all that Trot has been through. Kids feel inspired when they hear that Trot lives a happy and fulfilled life despite experiencing homelessness and a life-threatening illness. They write him the sweetest notes about how proud they are of him and how much he helps them. Trot’s love and life is so very important to so many and is a true testament of love and the power to overcome the odds! Each Facebook profile can vote one time.
